About the boat

Shadowmere is a 41 foot Sailing ketch made in Sweden by Hallberg Rassy, known as a HR41 there were only 105 of these built, all between 1979 and 1981. Shadowmere has hull number 85 and was built in 1979. see https://www.hallberg-rassy.com/yachts/previous-models/hallberg-rassy-41 for more details.

The McCrum family bought her in November 2006 from Transworld Yachts in Southampton and had her delivered to Donaghadee Marina in February 2007 after having new rigging, seacocks and engine injectors fitted.

After several cruises in France and around Scotland she cruised the Baltic for 5 years, including visiting St Petersburg. We kept her in Stockholm (Saltsjobaden) ,Finland (Tammissari aka Ekanas) and for a couple of years on Fehmarn Island (Baltic Koelln). We spent 5 or 6 weeks in her every summer and enjoyed the Baltic immensely. We re-engined to a SOLE 62 in Fehmarn and had a new mainsail fitted. She came back to the UK and berthed in Belfast Marina for a year before starting her Caribbean and beyond adventure documented in this blog.

Shirley and Ian are members of the Cruising Association ( cruising.org.uk ) you may see its burgee flying.  We are also members of  Strangford Sailing club and Cockle Island Boat Club and previous members (and commodores) of Donaghadee Sailing club.

I am a member of the seven seas cruising association (SSCA) and you may see my very tattered burgee being flown on Shadowmere.

I am also a member of the Ocean Cruising Club (OCC) and fly its burgee.

After the 20,000 mile, two year adventure around the Atlantic (Two years that took five on account of Covid!) the boat was sold and renamed COLIBRI (IMEI#205321970). In 2023 she headed South towards Greece and is expected to make a circumnavigation in the years to come. There are instagram posting under the name "colibri_sailing"
